Magic were runaway 14-goal winners over LG Northern Mystics in Auckland in a game that could have gone either way for the first three quarters. Only four goals separated the two sides heading into the final term before a rampant Magic put together some impressive netball to extend a comfortable winning margin.
With a big home crowd behind them, Mystics began the game full of confidence and determined to win their second game in succession. Goal shooter Cathrine Latu held firm under the pressure of in-form defending ace Casey Williams to keep her side in touch.
Down the other end it was all Maria Tutaia nailing shots with ease from the top of the circle as the Mystics focused on limiting the brilliance of Irene Van Dyk.
The visitors led 15-13 after the first quarter and continued to hold a slight two-goal buffer in the second term, as a brilliant battle began to unfold in the centre between Temepara George and Laura Langman.
Magic slipped a gear in the second half with Williams plucking the ball easily, both in and out of the defensive circle, and Tutaia and Van Dyk in deadly shooting form. The Mystics slowly began to slip off the pace with Magic leading 42-38 going into the final stanza.
Mystics coach Yvonne Willering introduced Rawinia Everitt to centre, moving George to wing attack. The move failed to reap rewards as Magic jumping the gun quickly, doubling their lead over the home side. Williams continued her dominant display and played a huge role in her side`s 59-45 win.
The win means Magic remains in second place on the competition table.
