Brazill pumped for first home game!
With only a few sleeps to go until the NSW Swifts play their first home game of the 2010 ANZ Championship, “Red recruit” Ashleigh Brazill is busting at the seams to play in front of their home crowd.
Having her first taste of ANZ Championship action at the Netball Cup, the official preseason tournament of the ANZ Championship, Brazill is relishing her time with the NSW Swifts.
“At the start of the weekend I was shaking in my shoes I was that nervous. Getting to play with and against the netball big guns of the world was actually pretty intimidating,” Brazill said.
“But coming up against the girls I have watched over the years was amazing. I had a great time with my team-mates trying out all different combinations over the weekend.”
Adding to her NSW Swifts experience, Ash travelled to Broken Hill with fellow recruit, England international Sonia Mkoloma to promote the game of netball and conduct an ANZ Netball Development Clinic.
“Broken Hill was very different for both Sonia and I especially trying to get used to all the bugs and flies! It was a good chance to get to know Sonia away from the netball court considering we only just met a few weeks ago,” Brazill said.
“Sonia has a fun and crazy personality which made the trip so much more enjoyable. She will be a great asset for the Swifts.”
Bringing a lot of energy into the NSW Swifts camp in 2010 with her infectious enthusiasm, it is no wonder the kids at the clinics take a liking to Brazill straight away.
“Seeing the kids smile, laugh and enjoy their netball just as much as I do actually really motivates me. It was a great trip!”
On Saturday 10 April Brazill will be in a very different environment when she runs out on court with her team-mates in front of thousands of screaming NSW Swifts fans at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre. So how will Ash prepare for their round four match?
“I don’t have a specific routine as yet for the night before a big game, but I will try and be as relaxed as I can. One thing is for sure though I will have my iPod pumping!” Brazill said.
NSW Swifts fans can catch the NSW Swifts on their home court for the first time in 2010 on Saturday 10 April where they are hoping that the Pulse will see a sea of red at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre. Tickets are available from Ticket Direct.
