GREEN & GERRARD TO CAPTAIN SWIFTS
Announced today by NSW Swifts Head Coach Lisa Beehag, the appointment of Gerrard, Green and Pratley is an exciting move for the Club.
“Green, Gerrard and Pratley stood out within the group with the experiences that they have, not just from a playing point of view but with the way they are respected by their team-mates on and off the court,” Beehag said.
“They are three very different individuals and in their own way work extremely hard at what they do and really try to be the best they possibly can be.”
Mo’onia Gerrard is excited to be part of the NSW Swifts leadership group and having the honour of leading her home team in the ANZ Championship.
“It hasn’t really sunk in yet to be honest. Having the opportunity to be a co-captain of the NSW Swifts is a massive honour for me and I feel privileged to have the chance to lead this team,” Mo’onia Gerrard said.
“The Swifts are an unknown unit this year. To lead these girls into the 2012 season is exciting; they’re an awesome group.”
Kimberlee Green has been a part of the Swifts family for ten years. After filling the role of co-vice captain for the last two seasons, Green is excited by the new opportunities that this new role presents.
“When I was 16 and in my first year at the Swifts I never thought that one day I’d be a co-captain. To be part of the leadership group and alongside the likes of Mo’onia Gerrard and Susan Pratley is exciting,” Green said.
“I think the three of us give the team a really good balance because we all bring different qualities to the role.
“We’re all looking forward to the season starting; with the intensity that the girls bring to training I’m sure it’ll be a great year.”
Rounding out the leadership group is shooter Susan Pratley.
“This is the first time that I’ve been part of the leadership group for the NSW Swifts. It’s always a great honour to be recognised as a leader in a team so it is a very proud moment for me,” Pratley said.
“Growing up in NSW the Swifts was always the team that everyone aspired to play for. For me, it’s exciting to not only be part of the Swifts but to now be part of the leadership group.”
Gerrard, Green and Pratley will lead the NSW Swifts for the first time in their newly appointed leadership roles on Saturday night when they take the court against the Melbourne Vixens in an Exhibition Match at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre (first centre pass at 5:20pm).
