Round 12 ANZ Championship
The NSW Swifts will take to the court against the Adelaide Thunderbirds in front of a huge home crowd on Monday night in a crucial round 12 match of the ANZ Championship at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.
The last time the NSW Swifts met the Thunderbirds was in round 8 when the Swifts silenced a parochial ETSA Park crowd to defeat the Thunderbirds by six goals.
Coming off a nail-biter in round 11 against the Firebirds, the NSW Swifts will be looking to continue on their winning ways and showcase a consistent performance across four quarters of netball.
“We got out to an eight goal lead during the Firebirds match, but we weren’t able to push on and consolidate our position. Against the Thunderbirds, if the opportunity presents, we need to ensure we take it with both hands,” NSW Swifts coach, Julie Fitzgerald said.
For the NSW Swifts, the dynamic duo of Susan Pratley and Cath Cox will face tough opposition from the Thunderbirds defenders. The battle between Cox and Geva Mentor looms as an intriguing one and could hold the key to the match.
Key to shutting down the Thunderbirds midcourt will be controlling Australian centre, Natalie von Bertouch, who has been in excellent form throughout the entire competition.
“This game is crucial for us – there’s no doubt we need a win. I know we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
The NSW Swifts are currently in a bottle neck in fourth place (on percentage) with the Thunderbirds and Vixens, all on 14 points.
For both teams the win is crucial to maintaining their place on the ladder, with the inaugural ANZ Championship on the line and finals only three rounds away.
